Check your motor vehicle insurance limits to make sure you have sufficient coverage

You should check your insurance coverage limits on your automobile and home to make sure that your limits are adequate. The last thing you want is to get in an accident and find that your coverage insufficient to cover your losses or the other party's damages.

Many people carry the minimal limits for both liability and uninsured motorist coverages. The minimal limits are only $30,000 per person/$60,000 per accident for bodily injury and $15,000 for property damage. If you cause an accident and the someone is seriously injured, you are putting your assets at risk including your home and bank accounts. Your wages could be garnished. If you a total a Tesla, your coverage will be woefully inadequate to cover the loss. Increasing your policy limits can be done for a minimal increase in premium.

Uninsured motorist coverage protects you if the other driver is uninsured or has low limits. If you are seriously injured and need surgery, you want to make sure you are protected. You should also check to see if you waived PIP which covers medical bills and lost wages regardless of fault. Make sure you have collision, rental car, and towing coverages.

You also want to make sure that your home is adequately insured. Real estate appreciates and you need to increase your coverage periodically. Consider an umbrella policy to protect your assets.

It is well worth it to make sure you have sufficient coverage. You can discuss the issue with your insurance agent or an attorney. Do not wait until it is too late.
